The Pride of the Mountains, aka Mount Pride Penstemon (penstemon newberryi) is one of those breathtaking flowers that grows fairly widely. It is seen in Yosemite Valley on Fern Ledge and below Sentinel Falls and grows on up to Mount Hoffman. Especially common on rocky outcroppings in red fir forest. It is easily confused with the Scarlet Penstemon (penstemon rostriflorus), but the latter is more red/scarlet instead of rose/red and the throat of the flower is not bearded (see the pictures below to see the bearded throat of the Pride of the Mountains.
