Scarlet Penstemon

Easily confused with Pride of the Mountains (penstemon newberryi aka Mountain Pride Penstemon), but PoM has more rose or rose-purple flowers and the throat is densely bearded (see the PoM pictures to see what that means). Prefers dry south-facing canyonside. Found in Yosemite along Vernal Fall and Ledge Trail, at Union Point, and the upper part of Yosemite Falls Trail. Botti, p.318. Unfortunately, these photos just don't do it justice, but I don't have any others for the time being.
