Obelisk Lake

Obelisk Lake

Obelisk Lake is named for Mount Obelisk, now known as Mount Clark, which towers above it. Long ago there was a cavalry trail up to Obelisk Lake and the US Army, then stewards of the park before the creation of the US park rangers, packed in trout to stock the lakes. Now it is a rather popular hike with staff at the Merced Lake High Sierra Camp, but otherwise is a fairly lonely place. In 2005, when these pictures were taken, the High Camps did not open so Obelisk Lake was even more quiet than usual.
