For some time now the signs have been growing: the meadows are drying at low altitude and the Sierra Lessingia is out. I've seen some birds look like they are trying to flock, taking off from branches and, realizing that they are alone, coming back. In some weeks, they'll get a companion or two and then a good size flock and they'll be gone. The bears are getting a bit more adventurous as they try to bulk up for winter and it's especially important to be careful about food storage.
Meanwhile, I guess summer is over for the people too. The lines are gone at the taco stand and the pizza deck. The crowds are mostly gone, except that the climbers are filtering back in.
