Tioga Pass Opens (June 16-22, 2006)

Tioga Pass opened surprisingly early this year given how much snow we had. There is also surprisingly little snow in the meadows themselves except right up at Tioga Pass where there's patchy snow up to three feet deep or so. But buying gas hurt! I hadn't filled up in a while I guess, so the price was a bit of a shocker. By the way, by park service mandate, gas prices in Yosemite are set by calling the three closest Chevron stations out the north, south and east entrances to the park and averaging the price. That Chevron in Lee Vining is bringing the price up!
