The Tufted poppy (Eschscholzia caespitosa) is the most common poppy in the area, occasionally growing inside the park, but covering hills by El Portal abundantly. It is similar to the California poppy (E. californica), but the Tufted poppy has smaller flowers and lacks the prominent ring below the blossom.
