Spotted Towhee (Pipilo maculatus)

Details

The male Spotted Towhee's distinctive call often resounds around my house in the spring and early summer, but for several years running, he carried on a battle with my living room window. He didn't fly into it, but perched on the small, smooth, sloping ledge outside and fought with his reflection, while flapping and trying to keep from sliding off. This summer, I heard a loud "bonk" and went out to find a dead Spotted Towhee on the ground. I don't know whether or not it was the same one and after all these years, the window finally won that fight.
